Right to water and River Rejuvenation
On 11th February 2020, National Water Right Convention was organized at Bhopal. The chief guest of this convention was the Hon’ble Chief Minister of MP. Shri Kamal Nathji who inaugurated the Convention. The objective of this convention was to create awareness on water conservation, learning the best practices from water activists and to gather suggestions for adoption of Right to Water Act in MP.
In his inaugural address Shri Kamal Nathji that his on political career was associated with water. He also mentioned that in 1969, while he was in Chhindwara, some women met him and said that their village as facing acute water crisis and because of that their sons are not getting married as none wants to marry their daughters in such a village where the women have to walk 12 kilometres to fetch water.
He further stated that this was the turning point in his life and he decided to stress on water issues in his political career. He mentioned that today none bothers about rivers, earlier rivers were full of water but today many of them are dried. There is an urgent need of putting dedicated efforts for water conservation. He also said that Right to Water Act is his dream and he sincerely wishes to get it passed during the budget session.
PHED Minister Mr. SukhdevPanse said that on the initiative taken by Shri Kamal Nathji , this bill is now being aopted that ensures the equal right of water to everybody. Madhya Pradesh is the first state to adopt this bill.
JalpurushRajendra Singh ji appreciated the efforts of Shri Kamal Nathji and mentioned his own experiences with him.
More than 400 water activists, government officials, environmentalists, scientists , representatives from civil society organizations participated in the Convention.
